James began his career as an analyst for a legal firm, Kensington Swan. He moved to a boutique firm Aclaro advising; TNS, Air NZ, Les Mills, Henry Schein Shalfoon, etc., on transactions and growth. In 2008 James moved to Australia where he held senior commercial roles at Origin Energy investing in generation assets.
From 2011 James forged a path in pay-for-results advisory, holding executive roles at Global Consultancy firms Partners in Performance (PiP) and L.E.K. Consulting. Here James gained vast international experience in agribusiness, manufacturing and energy. Having worked with businesses such as Alliance, JBS, Saputo, QIC, Orica, APLNG, GFG Alliance, and NAPCO.
James is an astute investor, from investing in Charlies in 2006 to his family office, various property investments, and foundering Hovingham Investments with active investments in early stage NZ Agribusinesses with global potential.
One of the youngest University of Otago Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduates at 22, James also holds a Bachelors Degree (Commerce).
